Gataskog - Defenders and Attackers

Hi again!

I've been working on this project for some years now and now I'm getting close to something. And since the original battle was in March 1365 I realise that I'm getting very close to some kind of anniversary. But I think I settle on finishing the dio for the real anniversary in 2365. I mean, that should give me enough time. I hope. Some pictures on the figures. The base is just painted yet and I realise I need more bases. And pics with the cellphone so not very good.

First the defenders, Swedes and Norwegians.

Last pic? Yes, I added bowstring on some of the archers. Have four left.

And the attackers, Swedes and Germans. And some casualties that I'm going to put arrows in.

That was all this time. See ya!

Bases off!

Yesterday I managed to cut the bases from the figures. All survived the experience, even the Airfix squaw (at over 40 years old she's got the right to be a little fragile).

When I painted the base-less horses I glued them on a bottle cap with wood-glue, but here a disaster happened. Some of the old Italeri sets are very fragile and one of the horses broke a leg. What to do now? Get another horse or use the ones I've got and pretend nothing happened? I think I'll try to hide the injury and pretend nothing's happened. And the horse? Well, he's a good horse and I think he'll get over it. :-D

Yello

The yellow guys. Belong to Sir Gustafsson Ving (his first name hasn't survived the time, only that of his father Gustaf and that his sister married a German knight). Now this little dio will have to wait. I'll finish three more horses, but the rest of my time must go to that old "Out Shopping"-dio! :-(  Nah, more like this :-)!

A little more :-D

And a smiley, yes! Maybe going to be more positive in this blog, surely hope so. Welcome to Peter. And I've been very bad at welcoming my first followers (sorry for that and you gave me support when I needed it!) and I hope you won't be reading anything negative here again (I just had to let it out somewhere). Been painting my yellow troup a little more and starting to get some kind of order to it. Some of their enemys have already been showed here, but there will be more. Gaaah!!! It is enemies!!! Those that's not shown before are only primed just now so no use in showing a coupel of black and white figs. The cake that the cavalry are running away from is very good by the way, they should turn around! :-D

Some small updates

Had a painting session yesterday morning, but realised that this is not working. To have any time to relax (one way to relax is to paint) I get up 5.15 in the morning (Saturday or Sunday). And I sit anxious waiting for Valter (our dog) to want to go out or the missus asking for help. It is just a lot of stress trying to relax. Haven't given up yet, but when I finished my session yesterday I had given up. :-( Thought I only had the black wash left (and the feet of course) to do, but realised I had forgot to paint any belts. No big problem. The little bigger problem was that I've given three men-at-arms dressed horses. That won't do. Horses from other sets then and I've found some I can use. I'm also adding more infantry on both sides. And a casualty (needles can be harmful! Didn't find the right used guitar-string (G) this time.).

Still working

Soon finished with the charging figures for my "The Charge of Sir Ving"-orsomethinglikethat-dio. But I see now that I forgot to give the horses a blaze. Don't think all horses have a blaze, but I think my horses looks less boring that way. What is boring is painting reins and saddles so that will have to wait until next time. And for the opposing side I'll need to buy some Strelets and Miniart (it looks pretty boring with only Italeri and Revell-figs yet). :-D Haven't heard anything from Africa more than that he was very relieved when he had the money (talked to him right after he got them). Hopefully his daughter will get better. Sending some seeds today (he is a farmer and seeds are A LOT cheaper here). Soon finshed my Lärna-boys too (for something I think I'm going to call "Sir Trotte's Last Stand").

Been at it again

Yes. Working on my planned dios for Gata Forest. "Sir Trotte's Last Stand" and "Charge of Sir Ving". For Trotte I'll need Valdemar's casualty figures and for Ving I'll need a couple of Strelets so this is going to take a while. Right now I'm working on some troops for Sir Johan of Lärna and Sir Ving's cavalry. Maybe need isn't the right word, more that I want those sets. But can't by them all at the same time. And when these are finished there is always more to paint while waiting to order some of the desired sets.

A little update on Gata Forest

A little part of the Swedish-Norwegian army is finished (I thought, but then I saw I had forgot to paint the back of the jacket of one of the Norwegian Airfix-figs). Some of these you have seen before and I can tell that Lärna-family and Eka-family are connected through Sir Johan's of Lärna daughter that married Sir Trotte of Eka (one of the casualties, but not yet on my planned dio (I think). Tofta family arms is a modern invention.

Wash & Go

Never thought I would get anything painted this weekend. Friday evening the missus was unwell (when you can't walk there are other bodyfunctions that doesn't work properly either). Saturday was a little bit better, but she was tired. Sunday I suggested that we buy some Asian food (you get so much it last for days), and I got some painting done. Now it's just washes on the ACWs and building a base for them. (And I'm still working on my blond Bavarian). Looks like I'm being able to join the Xmas-competition and started working on the Valentine-competition too (just out of pic).

Some very small progress

... but not on Gata Forest. Working on a little ACW-something too and think I'm going to finish this. But warring with the missus takes very much energy and I've got no time to breath at home. The first thing to give up is the psyche, then it's the body. Feelings? They're still there. At least I have them. She, I don't know. Sigh. Hope it will get better, but I doubt it.

Alternative Dead Flowers

Didn't use this figure in the last competition, used one of Robin Hood's Merry Men instead. The flower in the background don't suffer anymore. I've kept it to remind me that I shall NEVER EVER have flowers at my office. At home they are healthy and allright most of the time and they have never reached this mummified state. Fig is going to be used in Gata Forest, don't know which side yet.

Working working working

But not on this battle. Found some genuin Coats-of-arms at a Danish site and going to paint some of the figs like that. But I also work on some other stuff. Sigh, why don't I just stick one thing and finish it? Now I have A LOT of stuff to finish instead. But it is fun and relaxing to paint (just hope the missus finally can understand that).

The charge of Sir Benkt

Some people have already seen these figs unpainted more or less. Now they are more or less painted. This is planned to be a part of the battle at Gata Forest, but since I made up the coat-of-arms myself I haven't decided which side Sir Benkt should be on.There where many Swedish knights on the German side and if he is one of them I have to put some peasants in the ranks.
